Jason Smith

Jason is a mountain boy—even a bit of a hillbilly—who grew up in Appalachia and spends as much time as possible in the great outdoors hiking, kayaking, sightseeing, and fly fishing. If you want to lose 30 to 45 minutes you will never regain, just ask him a seemingly simple question about fly fishing.

A devoted family man, he is married to his high school sweetheart and has two grownup kids that he now chases around the globe.

Jason retired from the Army in late-2022 after serving for 30 years. He began his career as a Signal lieutenant in the early 1990s and separated a few years later to work with Westwood One Radio. During his time in the private sector, Jason continued to serve in the Reserve Component as a Field Artillery officer and as an Observer Controller. He returned to Active Duty in late-2001 and soon thereafter became a PSYOP officer. For the better part of two decades, he held positions across multiple PSYOP battalions and within 4th and 8th Groups as well as within USASOC. He took part in peacekeeping and operational deployments within Bosnia-Herzegovina, Southeast Asia, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Jason graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism and holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Security Studies from National Defense University and a Master of Arts in Strategy from the Army War College.

He and his wife continue to live near Pinehurst, North Carolina and to travel for relaxation and to visit their kids.
